Women, Don’t be Afraid to Lift Some Weight

Time after time I come across females who are terrified of lifting weight for the fear of looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ask yourself, do i have a beard, an “Adam’s Apple”, or a voice so deep it makes James Earl Jones sound like a preschooler. If your answer is no, then you have nothing to worry about. The female sex does not have the hormones (mainly testosterone) needed for hypertrophy. Following are some main reasons why you should include weight training into your training schedule.

I have a fully referenced article that I am going to post in a week or two, but first I wanted to get you thinking.  Below I have suggested some of the reason’s I believe resistance training to be beneficial and even important for women, but I want to know your questions, concerns and thoughts.

Here are a few reasons why I think women should not be afraid to lift weights as a form of exercise.

  1. Helps prevent Osteoporosis
  2. Helps prevent type 2 Diabetes.
  3. Promotes correct posture.
  4. Eliminate unnecessary fat by using it as fuel
  5. Increased overall strength levels
  6. Cosmetics
  7. Helps with sleep managment

Do you think weight training is good or bad for women? Share your thoughts and experience!

I look forward to answering all of your questions and debunking the myths that come with female weight training.

COMING TO DCC; RECESS™ THE BOARD GAME

COMING TO DCC; RECESS™ THE BOARD GAME
After many years in the fitness industry and with the growing obesity epidemic I felt there was a need to affect a change at an early age.

The fact of the matter is that once someone is on the path to a chronice diesease, such as diabetes or obesity, it is too late.  It has already cost the health care system millions of dollars and quite frankly, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”

Recess™ is the first board game designed to teach kids the importance of fitness and nutrtion.  The players will experience practical application of various exercise forms, answer true/false and multiple choice questions about fitness and nutrition and learn through practice of proper and improper choices with regard to healthy eating.

Olympic Lifting; It’s Benefits to All Sports

We all know that the majority of amateur and professional sports out there are FAR from slow in nature.  This being said, once mastered, Olympic weightlifting can greatly increase an athletes OVERALL Speed, strength and explosiveness in any sport.

That’s the beauty of it…..its transferable to most sports.  As an athlete, giving your command centre (hips) the ability to be the main source of where power is generated, will make you a stand out in terms of a wide variety of aspects of that particular sport.  Depending on the sport and/or the position of the player, things such as tackling power, speed, vertical, torque, kicking etc etc can be improved ten-fold with the correct utilization of explosive weight training.

As a Personal Trainer and Business Consultant to the health and fitness industry, the options and choices available to me for ongoing education and certification are many. However, I have been a client and fan of the DCC approach for several years, so when they announced their Level 1 Certification Course, I was immediately interested. The multi-disciplinary approach to training and lifestyle is tremendously unique in my experience, and I would highly recommend this certification course to any fitness professional who values a unique balance of science and fun when working with their clients.
