Women, Don’t be Afraid to Lift Some Weight on July 28th, 2010 at 11:52 am

Time after time I come across females who are terrified of lifting weight for the fear of looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ask yourself, do i have a beard, an “Adam’s Apple”, or a voice so deep it makes James Earl Jones sound like a preschooler. If your answer is no, then you have nothing to worry about. The female sex does not have the hormones (mainly testosterone) needed for hypertrophy. Following are some main reasons why you should include weight training into your training schedule.

I have a fully referenced article that I am going to post in a week or two, but first I wanted to get you thinking.  Below I have suggested some of the reason’s I believe resistance training to be beneficial and even important for women, but I want to know your questions, concerns and thoughts.

Here are a few reasons why I think women should not be afraid to lift weights as a form of exercise.

  1. Helps prevent Osteoporosis
  2. Helps prevent type 2 Diabetes.
  3. Promotes correct posture.
  4. Eliminate unnecessary fat by using it as fuel
  5. Increased overall strength levels
  6. Cosmetics
  7. Helps with sleep managment

Do you think weight training is good or bad for women? Share your thoughts and experience!

I look forward to answering all of your questions and debunking the myths that come with female weight training.

Working out at the Dynamic Conditioning Centre had a huge impact on the overall tightness of the team. We were better able to bond and grow together while training at the DCC. We noticed a large benefit in the late stages of games - kids were still skating hard, while the other team was getting tired. Our team went from 10th place to 7th with a 17 point improvement from the previous year. The team really enjoyed it and many of them were asking if they could continue in the off-season and come back next year.
